The Aurora University Spartan men's golf team won their first Northern Athletics Conference championship at Whistling Straits Irish Course in Kohler, Wisconsin on Tuesday afternoon.

Brandon Vicory
The Spartans won the title with a team score of 620, 44-over par. AU concluded the opening round on Monday with a 305, which was the best team round at the two-day championship, while their 315 reigned best of Tuesday's scores.

The Spartans had three individuals place in the top five of the championship, sophomore Brandon Vicory (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora), junior Cameron Parker (Muncie, Ind./Delta) and senior Shane Roland (Knightstown, Ind./Knightstown) placed second, third and fifth, respectively.

Vicory finished at 6-over and tied with Edgewood College's Aaron Gavin (South Milwaukee, Wis.) after 36 holes. A one hole playoff gave Gavin an advantage for medalist honors at the

Shane Roland
championship.

The 150 total shot by Gavin (75-75) and Vicory (74-76) ties a NAC championship record set at the 2008 championship by Benedictine University's R.J. Schwalbach (New Berlin, Wis./West). Schwalbach finished sixth this year at 13-over (77-80--157).

Edgewood, winner of the 2006 championship, finished second at 630 (311-319) posting the second best round each day.

Cameron Parker
Alex Kline-Wedeen, senior, finished the tournament in a tie for 13th, shooting a 162 (80/82), while junior Dave Pecorella shot an 89 on Monday and junior John Dudley shot an 86 on Tuesday.
