Aurora University Spartan football player senior linebacker Mike Budzinski (Minooka, IL/Minooka H.S.) was named the Northern Athletics Conference Football Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 18, 2009.

Budzinski (48 to the left) led the Spartan defense in a 24-21 loss at Concordia University Wisconsin, with 16 tackles and a fumble recovery. He also recovered the on-side kick at the end of the fourth quarter that gave the Spartans a chance to win the road contest.  His efforts in leading the Spartan defense, held Concordia Wisconsin to 144 total yards of offense on the afternoon.

On the season, Budzinski leads the Spartans’ nationally ranked defense (ninth in total defense) with 61 tackles, four for loss, two-and-a-half quarterback sacks, two fumble recoveries and one interception.

Budzinski and the Spartan football team are in action next on Saturday, October 24, 2009, when they host Rockford College in a Northern Athletics Conference contest. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. on Vago Field.
