Spartan Named ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America

Aurora University Spartan junior baseball designated hitter/catcher Kirk Williamson (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley H.S.) was named to the 2009 ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America College Division Baseball Second-Team. Williamson, a Second-Team All-America and First-Team All-District selection, hit .398 with 18 doubles, five home runs, 41 runs scored and 41 runs batted in. He was hit by five pitches, walked eight times and had a .602 slugging percentage and .433 on-base percentage. AU’s baseball team finished the 2009 season with a 29-13 record and 16-6 in the NAC. To be considered for the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America honor, the student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program’s inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA covering all NCAA championship sports. -END-
