Spartans Named Northern Athletics Conference Baseball Student-Athletes of the Week

Dave Warner
The Aurora University Spartan baseball team had two players named the Northern Athletics Conference Baseball, Hitting and Pitching, Student-Athlete of the Week for the second consecutive week. Senior outfielder Dave Warner (Lyons, IL/Morton West H.S.) and sophomore pitcher Dan McCarthy (Crestwood, IL/Shepard H.S.) were named the NAC Hitter and Pitcher of the Week respectively. On the week in which the Spartans went 5-2, Warner had a tremendous week hitting .565 with 12 runs batted in (eight came in one game against Cazenovia, one shy of a school record), nine runs scored, four doubles, one triple, one home run and walked six times while not striking out. His on-base percentage was .667 and slugging percentage was .957. On the recent 10-game spring trip in Winter Haven, Florida, Warner hit .514 (18 for 35) with one home run, six doubles, one triple, 12 runs scored, 14 runs batted in, a .595 on-base percentage and .829 slugging percentage. McCarthy had a strong start to the 2009 season, going 2-0 last week with wins over Cazenovia College and University of Dubuque. His win over Cazenovia was a complete game victory. In his first two starts of the season (and second and third of his career), he allowed three runs (two earned) while striking out 10 and only giving up nine hits in 12 innings pitched. The Spartan baseball team (8-2 overall) open the northern portion of the 2009 schedule when they host Monmouth College on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Solfisburg Park in Aurora at noon. -END-
