The Aurora University women's basketball team defeated the Concordia University Cougars 73-55 Tuesday on "Pink Zone" Night in Northern Athletics Conference action. The night started off with a special presentation of the national anthem by American Idol finalist Gina Glocksen. The Spartans took the momentum from Glocksen's pre-game festivities and sprinted out to a 12-2 lead minutes into the first half, as every starter scored a basket. The Spartans would extend their lead to 27-17 with four minutes remaining, behind the strong play of senior forward Kim Voiles and sophomore guard Ashley Daniels. At the half, the Spartans led 31-21. Voiles and Mason led the Spartans with eight and nine points respectively. In the second half, the Cougars cut into the Spartan lead, making the score 39-34 with 15 minutes remaining in regulation. The Spartans, however, were not rattled as they went on a 14-5 run to make the score 53-39 at the midway point. From there, the Spartans would cruise to the easy victory, winning handily 73-55. Top Spartan performers included Voiles (18 points, 11 rebounds, six steals and five assists), sophomore center Michelle Perry (16 points and seven rebounds), Mason (game-high 19 points), Daniels (11 points) and senior guard Meagan Re (nine points and four assists). With the win, the Spartans improve to 15-7 (12-4 NAC) while the Cougars fall to 6-14 (3-11 NAC). Next action for the Spartans comes on Saturday, February 14, when the Spartans host Dominican University on Senior Day. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.
