The Aurora University Spartans defeated the Dominican University Stars 80-65 Saturday afternoon on Senior Day at Thornton Gymnasium in Northern Athletics Conference Action. The Spartans jumped out to a quick 16-4 lead four minutes into the game behind two three-pointers from junior guard Dusty Magee. The Stars, however, were not overwhelmed, as they managed to close the gap to 33-25 with three minutes left in the half. The Spartans would take a 37-27 lead into the break. For the half, Magee led all scorers with 12 points. Senior guard Chad Trudo chipped in 11. In the second half, the Spartans jumped out to another fast start, this time opening up with a 12-4 run to make the score 49-31. Again, like the first half, the Stars closed the gap, and with eight minutes left, the Spartans led 59-49. Yet, in the end, the Spartans proved too much for the Stars to handle, as Magee and Trudo led the Spartans to the 80-65. Top Spartan performers included Magee (19 points) and Trudo (20 points), both shooting 8-of-13 from the field. With the win, the Spartans improve to 12-11 (10-5 NAC) while the Stars fall to 9-13 (5-9) Next action for the Spartans comes on Tuesday, February 17, when they travel to Lisle to take on the Benedictine Eagles. Game time is set for 7:00pm.
