Spartans Named Northern Athletics Conference Softball Student-Athletes of the Week

The Aurora University Spartan softball team had two players named the Northern Athletics Conference Baseball, Hitting and Pitching, Student-Athlete of the Week. Juniors, pitcher Anna Snyder (Grayslake, IL/Grayslake H.S.) and catcher Briana Martin (Andalusia, IL/Rockridge H.S.) were named the NAC Pitcher and Hitter of the Week respectively. On the week in which the Spartans went 5-1 on their spring trip to the Rebel Classic in Orlando, Florida, Snyder went 3-0 with a 0.43 earned run average while striking out 26 hitters in 21 innings and only giving up 10 hits, six runs (only one earned). On the season, she is 5-2 with a 1.34 earned run average and 52 strikeouts in 40-1/3 innings pitched. Martin hit .412 with a home run, double and six runs batted in and walked four times to give her a .524 on base percentage and .647 slugging percentage for the week. On the season, Martin is hitting a team high .448 with two home runs, one double, 10 runs batted in and four runs scored. The Spartan softball team (7-3 overall) is in action next on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 when they host Milwaukee School of Engineering in the Northern Athletics Conference and home opener. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. at the Stuart Sports Complex in Aurora, IL. -END-
