The Aurora University Spartan men’s soccer team lost their conference opener to Edgewood College on Sunday afternoon on Vago field, 2-1.

AU freshman forward Bobby Gonnella was the first to strike in the 31st minute of play with an unassisted goal, the goal marked his second goal of the season.

The lead didn’t last long as Eagles’ senior forward Jerrid Dokey scored an unassisted just six minutes later following a turnover deep in AU territory.

This was the first goal that the Spartans had given up this season, a shutout streak spanning 397:08.

Dokey gave the Eagles the lead in the 63rd minute, this time he was assisted by junior forward Woody Burns.

The Spartans could not come back in the game despite numerous opportunities. AU dominated shots on goal column with 10 to the Eagles with two (both goals).

The two shots is all the Eagles needed as they came away with the tough Northern Athletics Conference win.

Spartan freshman goalkeeper Ethan Cashen collects his first loss of the season as he moves to 3-1.

Eagles junior goalkeeper Shane Sullivan allowed one goal and an impressive nine saves.

The loss brings the Spartans record to 4-1 overall and 0-1 in the NAC. AU will take on Concordia University Wisconsin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 18 in Mequon, Wis.
