Spartan Named AU Jim Coleman Tournament MVP

Aurora University Spartan volleyball player, senior middle hitter Jill Smart (Grayslake, Ill./Grayslake HS), was named the 2009 AU Jim Coleman Memorial Tournament MVP and to the All-Tournament team after her performance this past weekend. AU went 2-2 and finished third in the two-day tournament at AU's Thornton Gymnasium on Friday, September 18 and Saturday, September 19, 2009.

Smart had a team-high 64 kills (4.00 per set) for a .368 kill percentage, five serving aces and a team-high 11 blocks in the four sets. In AU's 3-2 win over Manchester College (25-27, 21-25, 25-23, 25-17, 15-10), she recorded a team-high 18 kills, five blocks and three serving aces. In AU's 3-1 loss to Albion College (25-21, 18-25, 13-25, 18-25), she had a team-high 20 kills, to go along with nine digs.

On the season, Smart leads the Spartans with 3.32 kills per set (156 total kills), 29 blocks and has 12 serving aces.

Smart and the Spartan volleyball team are in action next on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, when they travel to Beloit College. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Beloit, Wis.
