Aurora University Spartan men's basketball had its 29th player enter the AU 1,000 Point Club in the Spartans 80-75 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College on Wednesday, January 27, 2010. Senior forward Shane Roland (Knightstown, Ind./Knighttown HS) surpassed the 1,000 point plateau with the second of two free-throws with 12:33 left to play in the second half.
Roland entered the contest two points shy of 1,000 and finished the evening with 20 points on 7-of-18 shooting from the field, two-of-five from three-point range and four-of-five from the free throw line.
Roland reaches the 1,000 mark in just over three and one-half seasons in the AU men's basketball program. He scored 32 points as a freshman, 221 points as a sophomore, 442 as a junior and following the contest last night, he has 323 points in his senior campaign.
On the year, Roland is averaging 17.9 points per game, while shooting 48.9 percent from the field (108-of-221) and 40.5 percent from three-point range (32-of-79).
Roland and the Spartan men are in action next on Saturday, January 30, 2010, when they host the Sabres of Marian University in Thornton Gymnasium at 4:15 p.m. in a Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) men's basketball showdown. The Spartan men are currently 9-9 on the season and 6-5 in the NAC.
