The Aurora University Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in conjunction with the Northern Athletics Conference SAAC took the plunge at the 2012 Polar Plunge in Madison, Wis., in support of Special
Olympics on Saturday, February 18.
The NAC SAAC team was "Freezin' for a Reason" on Saturday, February 18, at Olin-Turnville Park on the shore of Lake Monona, and raised $2,470 in support of Special Olympics athletes.
AU had seven AU SAAC members, Tristan Wilcox, Brooke Spencer, Jess Schumacher, Natalie Jansen, Caitlyn Clay, Kelly Coleman and Maggie Cooper, accept the challenge and took take the plunge.
"It was so fun, but so cold! I went all the way under and actually sat on the bottom of the lake," said AU SAAC President Maggie Cooper. "I love working with
and for the Special Olympics. I participated in the polar plunge once in high school and was excited when I found out I had another opportunity to plunge and raise money for an awesome organization."
The 22 plungers from the NAC including the seven from AU were from five different conference institutions (AU, Edgewood, Maranatha, MSOE and Wisconsin Lutheran) and are members of their respective teams of cross country, football, rowing, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.
