AU to host Lax4Leukemia event

On Sunday, April 29, the Aurora University Spartan men's lacrosse team will host Albion College in a Midwest Lacrosse Conference match-up on AU's Vago Field with a 1 pm start time.

While the contest will wrap up the regular season schedule for the two conference foes, the date has an

additional importance as Aurora University and the men's lacrosse team will host a Lax4Leukemia fundraising event.

"Lax4Leukemia was brought about while I was at my alma mater, Salisbury University," AU Head Coach Kylor Berkman said. "A player that I coached, Alex Nieves, was diagnosed at the beginning of his sophomore season. Alex battled and fought and is now cancer free because of the support of friends, family and the community. Thousands are affected by this disease every day in some way. We are lucky to have an opportunity to play the sport we love and do the things we do. This is a chance for the AU community to give back to those less fortunate in hopes that someday they can overcome and live their lives on their terms once again."

AU Lax4Leukemia t-shirts are being sold in the men's lacrosse office and will be sold at the April 29th contest while supplies last. Additionally, Aurora Programming Board (APB) Spartan Spirit will join the AU Student-athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to offer face painting for $1.00.

Fans can also purchase in-game raffle tickets to win Spartan men's lacrosse gear, including t-shirts, sweatpants, shorts and socks.

All proceeds from the AU Lax4Leukemia event will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
