Aurora University Spartan softball coach
Mike McKenzie earned his 300th career victory at AU when the Spartans defeated Edgewood College 3-0 on Sunday, April 22.
With the victory, McKenzie continues to extend his record as the Spartans softball coach and is the second softball coach at AU to surpass 300 wins. McKenzie is behind Sam Bedrosian's 383 wins (383-164) which spanned 18 seasons.
In his ninth season as the Head Coach of the Spartan softball program, McKenzie holds a 303-85-2 (.780) record. In his 15-year collegiate softball coaching career, he has an impressive record of 474-165-2 (.741).
The Spartans have won the Northern Athletics Conference Championship in three times in the first five seasons of the leagues existence. AU has won conference titles in six of the last eight seasons and in the eight seasons under McKenzie. The Spartans captured the regular-season championship in the former Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference in the final three seasons of the league and finished second in the NCAA UW-Whitewater Regional in 2010, second in the NCAA Alma Regional in 2005, were fourth in the NCAA Augustana Regional in 2006 and were fourth in the NCAA University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Regional in 2008.
The Spartan softball team is in action next on Saturday, April 28, 2012, when they travel to Lakeland College. Game time is set for noon in Sheboygan, Wis.
