Aurora University baseball seniors,
Ryan Adams and
Tim Mackey have been named to 2012 CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-Americans.
Adams (Geneva, Ill./Geneva H.S.), an outfielder, was named First-Team CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America. A business commerce major with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A., Adams hit .382 with 15 doubles, two triples, three home runs, 40 walks, 66 runs scored and 51 runs batted in on the field for the Spartans. Following the 2012 season, Adams has been named Northern Athletics Conference First-Team All-Conference, CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District, and D3baseball.com and ABCA/Rawlings Second-Team Midwest All-Region.
Mackey (Rosemont, Ill./East Leyden H.S.), a third baseman, was named Third-Team CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America. A CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District selection for the second consecutive season, Mackey is a double major in business and commerce and marketing with a 3.72 G.P.A. In addition to his success in the classroom, Mackey led the Spartan offense with a .391 batting average with 79 total hits with 19 doubles, two triples, five home runs, 59 runs scored and 32 runs batted in, and was 37-of-38 in stolen bases. Following the 2012 season, Mackey has been named Northern Athletics Conference Second-Team All-Conference, NAC All-Sportsmanship Team, D3baseball.com Third-Team All-American, ABCA/Rawlings and D3baseball.com Second-Team Midwest
The AU baseball team finished the 2012 season by tying a school record with a 38-10 overall record. With an 18-4 Northern Athletics Conference record, AU captured the 2012 NAC Championship, the school's first in the NAC in baseball and 21st in program history. AU also won the NAC Tournament title and made the program's 20th appearance in the NCAA tournament.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
