The "Cans Across the Conference" is a friendly competition organized by the Northern Athletic Collegiate Conference (NACC), where conference members strive to collect the most canned food and non-perishable items. This initiative, started in 2006, has been a collaborative effort by the NACC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to make a positive impact in each institution's respective community. SAAC coordinates this annual canned food drive, turning it into a community service competition among the 13 institutions in the conference. The Aurora University Athletic Department finished the 2015-2016 academic year as the top Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference school in the final Learfield Sports Directors' Cup Division III standings. The Aurora University athletics program had arguably one of the most successful seasons in Spartan history throughout the 2014-2015 academic year, with both the AU men and women winning the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) All-Sports Awards. For the women's sports it marked the third consecutive season and the men 's sports won for the sixth time overall.
