Spartan Women’s Soccer Team Captures Northern Athletics Conference Championship

The Aurora University Spartan women's soccer team captured the 2009 Northern Athletics Conference
women's soccer championship, the Spartans' fourth straight NAC title and fifth consecutive conference championship, with the fifth coming in the final season of the Northern Illinois-Iowa Conference.

The Spartans are currently 14-5 overall and with a 10-1 NAC record and will be the #1 seed and host throughout the upcoming NAC Tournament. 

AU clinched the conference championship with a 7-0 victory on Wednesday afternoon (October 28) at Concordia University Chicago.

The conference championship also marked a historic achievement for Aurora University. The women's soccer championship was the 100thconference championship that AU has captured since becoming an NCAA member institution in 1982.

For the women's soccer program which began play in the fall of 1994, the championship is the 11thin 16 seasons of the program. 

On the 2009 season, AU has been led by sophomore forward

(Highland Park, Ill./Highland Park HS), freshman defender Britney Schenck (St. Charles, Mo./Orchard Farm HS), senior midfielder Nikki Counsell (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc HS) and freshman goalkeeper Liz Wong (Tucson, Ariz./Canyon Del Oro HS).

Pschirrer leads the Spartans with 18 goals, 42 points, four game-winning goals and also has six assists, while Novickas has 10 goals, nine assists and four game-winning goals, Schenck has four goals and nine assists, Counsell has four goals and two assists and Wong is 11-4 with six shutouts and a 0.83 goals against average.

Next action for the Spartan women's soccer team comes on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, when they host the semi-final round of the NAC Women's Soccer Tournament.  Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. on Vago Field against a team to be determined after the opening round games.
