Spartans Reign Supreme over Sabres

This three-pointer by Dusty Magee made him the AU career leader in three-point field goals made.
The Aurora University Spartans defeated the Marian College Sabres 84-57 Saturday afternoon in a Northern Athletics Conference matchup at Thornton Gymnasium behind some fantastic shooting from
Shane Roland
three-point range.

In the first half, the Spartans jumped out to an early 7-0, as senior forward Shane Roland scored the first seven points of the game. The Spartans would extend their lead to 19-6 behind three pointers by senior guard Dusty Magee and Roland.

The three-point field goals by Magee and Roland were the start of what turned out to be an outstanding shooting performance in the game for the two Spartans from beyond the arc.

Two more three pointers by Magee minutes later would make the score 25-9 in

favor of the Spartans. The second being his third of the contest and moving him into the all-time leader at Aurora University for three-point field goals made in a career. He would go on to finish the night with nine (9-of-17) giving him 251 on his career. He surpassed 2005 graduate Adam McCoy who had 244 career three-point field goals.

Magee's high school teammate (Knightstown H.S. in Indiana) Roland would not back down from the show Magee was putting on as he drained another three pointer minutes later making the score 32-13 with six minutes left in the half.

In the closing minutes, a

barrage of Spartan three pointers made the score 51-21 heading into halftime.

For the half, the Spartans connected on 11 of 18 three pointers, including six by Magee and four by Roland. Magee and Roland led all scorers with 18 points each.

The second half featured the same story, as the Spartans came out and connected on their first two three point attempts, one each by Roland and Magee to make the score 57-23.

The Spartans would eventually extend their lead to 70-27 with 15 minutes left before resting their starters for seven minutes.

The Spartans would go on to the easy victory, winning handedly 84-57.

On the day, Magee finished with 29 points, connecting on 9-of-17 three point attempts. Roland finished with 28 points, including six-of-eight on three pointers. Senior forward Lance Robinson had 10 assists and five points and senior guard Ari Iventosch had 10 points and five assists.

With the win, the Spartans improve to 10-9 (7-5 NAC) while the Sabres fall to 8-11 (5-6 NAC).

Next action for the Spartans comes on Tuesday, February 2, when they host the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Game time is set for 7:00.
