The Spartan women's tennis team opened the 2012 season with an impressive 9-0 win over Mount Mary College Thursday afternoon at Washington Middle School.
In the first contest of the year for any AU program, the Spartan women jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead in singles action and did not look back as they swept the doubles action as well.
Sophomore
Christy Savellano won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles while fellow sophomore
Taylor LaVoy won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 5 singles. The combo then partnered at No. 2 doubles and won 8-4.
In all, no Spartan allowed more than two points against in singles action with junior
Natalie Jansen winning 6-1, 6-1 in No. 3 singles, No. 1 singles
Chloe Madison (freshman) won 6-2, 6-0, junior
Emily Kuntzi won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles and freshman
Jordan Hankes won 6-1, 6-2 in No. 6 singles.
With the win, AU is 1-0 on the season and is in action next on Saturday,
September 1 when they host Alverno College (10 am) and Wisconsin Lutheran College (2 pm) at West Aurora High School in Aurora, Ill.
