Pair of Spartans qualify for NCAA Outdoor Championship

The Aurora University Spartan track and field program qualified a pair of athletes that will compete at the 2025 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championship in Geneva, Ohio..
 
AU seniors Deedee Colon Maldonado and Steven Tinsley will be represent the Spartans in the Outdoor Championships. The meet will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday, May 22-24 at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.
 
Colon Maldonado will compete in the 10,000 meter run and 5,000 meter run. She is the eight-seed in the 10,000 meter after qualifying at the WashU distance carnival with a time of 35:15.27 and 15th in the 5,000 meter after qualifying at the University of Wisconsin Platteville Invite with a time of 16:38.23. She will look to add to her previous All-American finishes in the Outdoor and Indoor NCAA Championship events she has qualified for. The 2025 events for Colon Maldonado will take place on Thursday, May 22 in the 10,000 meter at 8:15 p.m. (est) / 7:15 p.m. (cst) and on Saturday, May 24 in the 5,000 meter at 3:25 p.m. (est) / 2:25 p.m. (cst).

Tinsley will compete in the shot put and discus in the 2025 NCAA Championship He is the nine-seed in the discus with a qualifying mark of 52.81 meters at the Augustana College Penultimate Qualifier and is the 10-seed in the shot put after a qualifying mark of 17.14 meters at the Midwest Twilight Final Qualifier. The discus will take place on Thursday, May 22 at 9:30 a.m. (est) / 8:30 a.m. (cst) and the shot put will take place on Friday, May 23 at 10:30 a.m. (est) / 9:30 a.m. (cst).

For each individual event contested, including the decathlon and heptathlon, the top 22 declared student-athletes were accepted into the competition. For each relay event contested, the top 16 declared relay teams, one per institution, were accepted into the competition.
