Aurora University senior guard Esteban Vega (Chicago, Ill./Von Stueben H.S.) was named the Northern Athletics Conference Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week following the NAC Tournament.
Vega led the Spartans to the 2013 NAC tournament title. In the semifinal win over Dominican University, Vega had a game-high 25 points and grabbed five rebounds. In the tournament championship at top-seeded Lakeland College, he had a double-double in the 95-71 victory with 10 points and a NAC Tournament record 13 assists to secure the team's spot in the NCAA Championship Tournament.
On the season, Vega is averaging 8.8 points, 3.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game for the Spartans, who are 22-6 overall and 14-2 in the NAC.
The Spartans and Vega will travel to the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minn. for the first round contest on Saturday, March 2, 2013. AU will open up against the Tommies (26-1) from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
