Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
The Aurora University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (
SAAC) is a student organization designed to provide a student-athlete voice on the campus of Aurora University, and specifically within the Department of Athletics. The
SAAC strives to organize service efforts within the community and discuss issues and develop recommendations to enhance student-athlete wellbeing. The
SAAC will also work with other members of the athletics staff in the areas of leadership and service. In addition, the
SAAC selects the Richard M. Rickey and Chris Thompson memorial awards on a yearly basis.
The
SAAC coordinates with the Director of Athletics for funding. Each team is responsible for nominating two student-athletes for the
SAAC (this includes athletic training and cheer and dance). These athletes should be nominated by the coaching staff and should be positive representatives of each team, upholding the core values of the department. If a student-athlete fails to follow through with their
SAAC commitment and is removed from the committee, the team will be responsible for replacing them. It is an honor to be a
SAAC representative and the student-athletes nominated should act and represent themselves accordingly.
Within the greater Aurora community, the AU
SAAC has developed relationships with numerous organizations where Spartan student-athletes volunteer their time. In recent years AU has partnered with the Aurora Area Interfaith Food Pantry,
Hesed House and Triple Threat Mentoring.
