Aurora University Spartan volleyball player, senior middle hitter Jill Smart (Grayslake, Ill./Grayslake HS), was named the Northern Athletics Conference Volleyball Student-Athlete of the Week.
Smart led the Spartans to a 3-0 week, all Northern Athletics Conference contests, and put AU above .500 (13-12) for the first time this season. On the week, she averaged 3.00 kills per set, 2.31 digs and 1.46 blocks per set.
In AU's 3-2 win over Maranatha Baptist Bible College (25-16, 21-25, 22-25, 25-15, 15-6), she recorded a team-high 16 kills, six digs and three serving aces. In AU’s 3-0 win over Rockford College (25-21, 25-17, 27-25), she had 12 kills, to go along with four digs.
On the season, Smart leads the Spartans with 3.04 kills per set (277 total kills), 73 blocks and has 21 serving aces.
Smart and the Spartan volleyball team are in action next on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, when they host Wisconsin Lutheran College on “Dig for Life” Night benefiting breast cancer awareness. Match time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Thornton Gymnasium.
