Aurora University men’s basketball senior guard Dusty Magee (Knightstown, Ind./Knightstown HS) was named the Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) Men’s Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week.
Magee helped lead the Spartans to the 2010 NAC Tournament Championship as well as fourth straight NCAA bid, as he averaged 20.0 points and 4.7 rebounds in the tournament. In AU's 70-64 win in the tournament final over Dominican, Magee had 19 points and hit the final seven free throws of the contest to seal the win.
Thus far on the season, Magee is averaging a team-high 15.4 points, 2.5 assists and is shooting 42.6 percent from the field (138-of-324) and 39.2 percent (76-of-194) from three-point range.
Magee and the Spartans will travel to Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin, for first and second round contests on Friday, March 5 and Saturday, March 6, 2010. AU will open up against the Red Men of Carthage College (22-5) from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin at 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening.
AU’s NCAA Division III championship appearance is the fifth in six seasons, sixth in eight and eighth overall since 1997-1998. The appearance is also AU’s fourth straight (in as many years of the conference) as a member of the Northern Athletics Conference. AU defeated Dominican University 70-64 in the NAC tournament championship game to capture the 2009-2010 NAC title.
