The Aurora University Spartan baseball team, for the second straight week, had a player named the Northern Athletics Conference Baseball, Pitching Student-Athlete of the Week.
Spartan senior pitcher Steve Salazar (Carol Stream, Ill./Glenbard West H.S.) was named the NAC Pitcher of the Week, just one week after winning the award for the first time this season.
On the week in which the Spartans went 2-0, they defeated #11 Augustana College 6-2 and #12 Carthage College 2-0. In AU’s 2-0 win at Carthage on Saturday afternoon, Salazar allowed one hit and only three base runners in the contest while striking out six in the complete game shutout.
The shutout is Salazar’s second straight and he has not been scored upon in his last 20 innings pitched. On the season, he is 3-0 with two complete game shutouts, a 1.12 era, 16 strikeouts and 11 hits allowed in 24 innings pitched.
The Spartan baseball team (7-5 overall) travel’s to North Central College on Wednesday, March 31, 2010. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. in Naperville, Ill.
