The COVID-19 outbreak forced the sudden cancelation of the NCAA winter and spring sports seasons. Over the coming weeks, the Aurora University athletic department will be highlighting senior student-athletes. We will start with the seniors from the spring who had their seasons cut short and were unable to have a senior day ceremony. Â
Senior Spotlight: Jocelyn Ocon (women's track and field)
Major:Â Exercise science.
What are your plans after graduation? Continue my education and go for my masters in Exercise Science at AU.
What is your most memorable/best academic experience at AU? My best academic experience at AU was being able to complete my internship with AU strength and conditioning. Getting my foot in the door by coaching most/if not all AU teams was awesome and I learned a lot!
What is your most memorable athletic moment at AU? Qualifying for Outdoor nationals for the first time on my very last throw of the season by throwing a 3 meter personal best!
Other than the sport(s) you play; what other sports activity are you good at? I enjoy weightlifting as a sport and hobby and will likely compete in that following graduation.
Outside of sports, what is your favorite hobby or activity? I enjoy practicing latte art and playing around in makeup outside of sport.
What is your favorite meal in the cafeteria? Breakfast!
What AU faculty or staff member had the greatest impact on you and why? Dr. Chris Pitsikoulis was instrumental in getting my academic life back on track after a rough semester. He really influenced my ability to move beyond it and be able to succeed both in academics and in sport.
What do you enjoy most and least about practice? I enjoy the sport itself (throwing) and being around my teammates the most. My least favorite part of practice is running in any form.
Do you have any pregame rituals? I always wear these royal blue and neon green socks to compete in, but other than that I try not to be superstitious.
What advice would you give to underclassmen at AU? Go to class!
If you had to listen to one song on repeat forever, what would it be and why? Turnin' Me Up by BJ The Chicago Kid, because it's such a soothing song and it plays well in a loop.
If you could spend an hour each with three people (past or present), who would you choose and why?
- Selena Quintanilla because she was my idol growing up.
- JFK to ask him his thoughts on everything that has happened after his death.
- Elon Musk because he is one of the most interesting people around right now.
