Throughout the 2020-2021 year, the Aurora University athletic department will highlight the senior student-athletes. The seniors will provide some insight to their time at AU while getting to know them as individuals they have grown into in their time as a Spartan.

Senior Spotlight: Oscar Nava (Football)
Major:Â Criminal Justice
What are your plans after graduation? I am still debating between enlisting to the Marines or going straight into law enforcement.
What is your most memorable/best academic experience at AU? My most memorable experience was being able to visit the Lake County coroner's office and being able to see how they perform an autopsy.
What is your most memorable athletic moment at AU? Playing St.John's up in Minnesota in the first round of the NCAA playoffs.
Other than the sport(s) you play; what other sports activity are you good at? I used to play soccer, not sure how "good" I am at it now.
Outside of sports, what is your favorite hobby or activity? I enjoy working on cars both mechanical and detailing.
What is your favorite meal in the cafeteria? Scrambled eggs for breakfast.
What AU faculty or staff member had the greatest impact on you and why? Academically, Dr.Kooi changed my perspective on many things that I am thankful for now. In life, CoachÂ
Don Beebe has helped me improve not only on but off the field as an individual and for that I will always be greatful.
What do you enjoy most and least about practice? I absolutely LOVE competing against the offensive line in the 1v1 drill.
Do you have any pregame rituals? When I get up in the morning from a sleepless night, I start out the day with piano music. As game time gets closer I will watch some boxing videos on Canelo Alvarez. Right before game time I will pray then we have a team prayer and then....Game time!
What advice would you give to underclassmen at AU? As much as I dislike homework myself, DO NOT FALL BEHIND ON HOMEWORK. You will dig yourself a deep hole that's difficult to get out of. Never be afraid to ask for help, many people on campus want to help you whether you believe that or not.
If you had to listen to one song on repeat forever, what would it be and why? The piano man by Billy Joel. It's a classic and any event you play it at no one will usually complain.
What is something that people may not know about you but should? I love to paint. It relieves stress and it's just fun.
If you could spend an hour each with three people (past or present), who would you choose and why? My grandparents on my mom's side of the family. I never had the opportunity to meet them. Canelo Álvarez, #1 pound for pound fighter in the world and it would just be a one in a lifetime experience being able to meet him.
