www.aurora.edu) – Aurora University Spartan softball sophomore shortstop Brooke Spencer (Orland Park, Ill./Sandburg H.S.) was named Northern Athletics Conference Softball Position Player of the Week for the week ending April 24, 2011, her third time receiving the award in the last four weeks season.
Spencer led the Spartans as AU went 5-1 on the week and 5-1 in NAC play. She hit .722 (13-of-18) with five home runs, one triple and two doubles, while scoring 10 runs and driving in 11 more. She had a 1.778 slugging percentage, an on-base percentage of .773 and was one-for-one in stolen bases. The five home runs on the week helped her surpass the AU single-season record for home runs (was 11) and she now has 12 on the year.
On the season in which the Spartans are 26-8 overall and 16-2 in the NAC, Spencer is hitting .527 with 12 home runs, 10 doubles, one triple, 40 runs batted in and 37 runs scored. She has a .609 on-base percentage with 19 walks, six-of-six in stolen bases and a slugging percentage of 1.043.
Next action for Spencer and the Spartan softball team comes on Wednesday, April 27, 2011 when travel to Benedictine University. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. in Lisle, Ill.
