Aurora University baseball senior third baseman Tim Mackey (Rosemont, Ill./East Leyden H.S.) was named Northern Athletics Conference Baseball Position Player of the Week for the week ending April 1, 2012.
Mackey hit .474 with nine hits and six runs batted in on the week for the Spartans. In the doubleheader split at Benedictine University, he was 5-for-10 with two doubles, a triple and a home run, while scoring three runs and having one run batted in. In game one of the doubleheader, he was a single shy of hitting for the cycle. In AU's doubleheader sweep of Milwaukee School of Engineering, he was 4-for-9 with a triple and five runs batted in. Defensively, he did not have an error in seven chances at third base.
On the season, Mackey is hitting .406 with nine doubles, two triples, two home runs, 20 runs scored, 12 runs batted in and is 14-of-14 in stolen bases.
Next action for the Spartans, currently 13-4 overall and 3-1 in the NAC, comes on Friday, April 6, when they host the University of Chicago. Game time is set for 3 p.m. at Solfisburg Park in Aurora, Ill.
