The Aurora University Spartan men's and women's cross country teams were well represented on the 2011 Northern Athletics Conference (NAC) All-Conference teams.
For the men's portion of the 2011 Northern Athletics Conference Championships, the Spartans finished fifth in the NAC championship.
First-Team All-Conference runner
Drew Schmitt led the Spartans, finishing the 8,000-meter course at the University of Wisconsin - Parkside in 26:18 to finish in second place.
Brandon Miller, also an Honorable Mention All-Conference runner, took 19th place in a time of 28:13. The third and fourth Spartan runners were
Rob Izzo, who finished 32nd with a time of 28:37; and
Nick Cole, who came in 35th with a time of 28:49.
Morgan Goetschel finished in 37th position with a time of 29:00 to round out the Spartans tallying points for the meet.
Roberto Gonzalez finished 41st with a time of 29:06 and was named to the NAC Men's All-Sportsmanship Team.
In the women's portion of the 2011 NAC Championships, the Spartans finished third in the 11-team meet with 77 points. The Spartans had their top four finishers all come across the line in the top 21 positions.
First-Team All-Conference runners
Briana Deckard and
Anna Perkowski both finished in the top 10. Deckard finished sixth with a time of 24:19, and Perkowski finished seventh with a time of 24:21. Senior and First-Team All-Conference runner
Brittany Paller was closely behind, finishing 13th in a time of 25:04. Sophomore
Alyssa Furman finished 21st (25:35) and
Britney Carter finished 33rd with a time of 26:19 to round out the Spartans scoring in the meet. Furman was named NAC Honorable Mention All-Conference and senior
Erin Cinto (51st – 27:30) was selected to the NAC Women's All-Sportsmanship Team.
AU will compete at the NCAA Division III Regional on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011 at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Ill. The meet is scheduled to start at 11 a.m.
