Spartans knock off Eagles in tennis nail-biter

Savellano was key in the Spartans 5-4 win.
The Spartan women's tennis team knocked off the rival Eagles of Benedictine University 5-4 in a Northern Athletics
Conference thriller Wednesday afternoon at the Washington Middle School courts.

AU fell behind early in the match 2-1 as the Spartan doubles team of Chloe Madison and Christy Savellano earned the victory in No. 1 doubles action.

As singles play began, there was no doubt that the match would come down to the last match played of the day. With No.4, No.5 and No.6 singles being the first completed, the Spartans trailed the Eagles 4-2, with No. 6 singles Jordan Hankes winning 6-2, 6-2.

Spartan Natalie Jansen pulled the match closer to even with her 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles and was followed closely by Madison's win at No. 1 singles 6-4, 6-1.

With both teams watching on, Savellano and BU's Bhavana Movva squared off in the days final match. Savellano won the first set 6-3 and led 5-2 with Movva serving. Movva made the score 5-3 before Savellano served her way to the 6-3 victory and the Spartan team win as well.
