#16 Spartans defeat Lakeland 3-0 in women's soccer action

Box Score The Aurora University women's soccer team defeated the visiting Lakeland College Muskies 3-0 Sunday afternoon on Vago Field.
The Spartans got started quickly, netting in their first goal and eventual game winner 9:25 into
the game.  The goal came from senior Mariah Ziegenbein and was assisted by junior Nicole Wolfe and sophomore Nicci Bermudes. The header by Ziegenbein came off a beautiful cross and flip from Wolfe and Bermudes.
The Spartans would strike again 30:22 into the game off of a set piece.  Senior Jenee Lange crossed it into the middle and sunior Lisa Bajkowski headed it perfectly into the net bringing the score to 2-0 going into halftime.  The Spartans would out shoot the Muskies 21-0 in the first half.
Action picked up quickly in the second half. Just 2:16 into the second-half, Wolfe scored on an unassisted goal which would be the final tally of the game giving the Spartans the eventual 3-0
lead.  
In net for the Spartans freshmen Maddy Crawford and Rachael Warnock combined for the shutout while facing no shots thanks in part to a dominating AU defense.

AU is now 8-1 overall and 4-0 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Next action for the Spartan women's soccer team comes on Wednesday, October 2 when they travel to Dominican University. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. in River Forest, Ill.
