Baseball drops game two with Benedictine 11-1

Box Score The Aurora University baseball team faced off in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup against Benedictine University on a chilly Wednesday afternoon. The Spartans fell to the Eagles 11-1.

Tyler Findlay got the start for the Spartans, he would give up four runs and strikeout three in four and 2/3 innings pitched for the Spartans and earn the loss..

AU got off to a quick start in the first inning with a run scoring single by Dillon Popovich to score Tanner Omayen who had reached on a dropped third strike to start the inning.

The Spartans and Findlay would give up four runs over the next four innings, one in each inning from the second to the fifth. Benedictine got solo home runs in the second and third innings and manufactured runs in the fourth and fifth. Findlay was relieved by Josh Kwasny in the fifth inning.

In the sixth inning, BU struck off Kwasny when he allowed a two out grand-slam that gave the visitors a commanding 8-1 lead.

The AU bats did battle but left two runners on base in each inning in the sixth, seventh and eighth.

In the ninth inning, Christian Smith came on to relieve Kwasny and the Eagles added three more runs for the eventual 11-1 AU loss.

Jared Swain finished two for three with a double, Nick Turner was two for four with a double, Popovich was two for four with one run batted in and Daniel Walczak was two for five.

With the loss, the Spartans are now 8-19 overall and 5-7 in the NACC. The next action for the Spartans comes on Friday, April 18 when they travel to the University of Chicago. Game time set for 3:00 p.m. in Chicago, Ill.
