Box Score 2 The Aurora University Spartan baseball team split the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader with Lakeland College on Saturday afternoon at Solfisburg Park. AU lost 11-0 (8 innings) in game one and won 16-8 in game two.

leading off with a triple and scoring on a sacrifice fly out from Popovich.
Lakeland answered in the second with one run on two singles off Steck.
In the third inning, AU utilized the extra base hit as the Spartans scored four times on four hits with doubles from Oymaian, Popovich and
Rafer Cooley.
Walks doomed the Spartans and Steck in the fifth inning. After back to back to back singles loaded the bases, Steck walked in two runs and three more scored on a bases clearing double, giving Lakeland a 6-5 lead.
AU would respond in the bottom of the inning with the aid of a critical Lakeland error. With two outs and the bases loaded with Spartans, sophomore
Nick Turner grounded to shortstop who airmailed the throw, allowing two Spartans to score for a 7-6 lead. AU took advantage, scoring eight more times with six hits and three Lakeland errors. Senior
Jared Swain hit a three run home run for the big shot of the inning. After the inning ended, AU led 15-6.
The Spartans tried to invoke the mercy rule in the sixth inning with a sacrifice fly by
Tim Brann that scored Danny Walczak for a 16-6 lead.
Lakeland would score in the top of the seventh and again in the ninth for the eventual 16-8 AU win.
With the split, AU is now 6-13 overall and 2-2 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan baseball team comes on
Sunday, April 6 when they travel to Concordia University Wisconsin. Game one is set for 12:00 p.m. in Mequon, Wis.
