The Aurora University women's tennis team opened up the 2014 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference schedule on Saturday, August 30 with a pair of matches against Concordia University Wisconsin and Milwaukee School of Engineering. AU fell to Concordia 8-1 and defeated MSOE 7-2.
In the opening match of the day, AU fell to the visiting Falcons 8-1 with the lone win for the Spartans coming from freshman
Micaela Mascha at No. 3 singles by a score of 4-6, 6-2, 10-7. Complete match scores can be seen here -
CUW 8 AU 1The Spartans rebounded in the second match, defeating MSOE by a 7-2 score. AU took a quick 3-0 lead through doubles action with doubles partners of
Christy Savellano and Cloe Madison (won 8-4), Mascha and
Abby Matayka (won 9-8) and
Jamie Huff and Jordyn Withey (won 8-1) all winning.
As singles action began, the Spartans continued the momentum, winning three of the next four matches to secure the win before the eventual 7-2 win. Winning singles matches for the Spartans included Mascha (6-0, 6-0), Matayka (8-1), Findlay (6-1, 6-3) and Withey (6-0, 6-0).

With the split, AU is now 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan women's tennis team comes on Tuesday, September 2 when they host McHenry County College at Washington Middle School. Match time is set for 3:30 p.m.
