The Aurora University women's tennis team lost a tightly contested Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Dominican University 5-4 on Wednesday, September 24.
AU took a 2-1 lead at the completion of doubles competition with Spartan partners of
Micaela Mascha and
Abby Matayka (won 8-2) and
Jordyn Withey and
Jamie Huff (won 8-4) giving AU the lead.
With the teams matching up in singles action, AU won in two singles with
Chloe Madison winning 6-0, 6-0 and Mascha winning at three singles 6-0, 6-1. At four singles, Matayka fell in a very close match 7-5, 7-5.
As the teams started to wrap up action, the match was deadlocked at 4-4 and one singles coming down to a third set tie-breaker. Spartan
Christy Savellano fell in the first set 6-2 before taking the second set 7-5. In the third and final set, Savellano fought hard but would fall 6-0.
With the loss, AU is now 5-5 overall and 5-3 in the NACC. Next action for the Spartan women's tennis team comes on
Friday, September 26 when they host Benedictine University. Match time is set for 4:00 p.m. at Washington Middle School in Aurora, Illinois.
