The Aurora University men's basketball team hosted the Concordia University Chicago Cougars on Thursday night in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match-up. The Spartans trailed only once at 3-2 before coasting to a 39-point win 117-78.
AU scored the most points since November 27, 2009 in a 136-121 win against Grinnell College. 15 of 16 Spartans to play scored and for the second straight game, no AU player logged more than 18 minutes of action. Four Spartans scored in double figures led by
Kalmon Stokes (22 points on 11-of-15 shooting),
Tyler Hall (20 points and seven assists),
Phil Schuetz (15 points and eight rebounds) and
Brandon Smith (11 points).

The Spartans started off playing well and took their first double-digit lead with 7:48 to play on a tip-in from Stokes to give AU a 36-25 lead. Just over 30 seconds later, AU senior
Kyle Pilmer threw down a monstrous dunk that forced CUC to take a timeout with the Spartans leading 40-27.
The Spartans maintained the momentum and ended the half on a 22-12 run to enter halftime with a 62-39 lead.
The Spartans would continue their dominance throughout the second half, jumping out on a 7-3 run just two minutes into the second half. Stokes would be the key contributor scoring 12 out of the first 18 points in the second-half for AU.

AU hit the 90 point mark with 11:37 to play and held a 31-point lead at 90-59. The Spartans with the home crowd having their sites set on triple-digits, hit the mark five minutes later after two free throws from
Denzel Irving.
The free-throws by Irving ignited a 19-5 run in the final 6:16 to give the Spartans the 117-78 win. AU is now 12-4 overall and 10-2 in the NACC.
Next action for the Spartan men's basketball team comes on
Saturday, January 17, 2015 when they travel to Lakeland College. Game time is set for 4:15 p.m. in Plymouth, Wisconsin.
