The Aurora University hockey team took to the ice for the final time in the 2014-2015 season against the University of Wisconsin-Stout and AU would lose the season finale 5-1.
AU took a 1-0 lead on Stout with the Spartans top offensive line of
Rihards Marenis, Michael Mikulin and
Trevor Hoth teaming up for the goal. Marenis tallied the goal with assists from Hoth and Mikulin.
But less than one minute later while on the power play, AU allowed a short-handed goal that tied the game up at 1-1. That would be the score as the teams went into the first intermission.
Stout would score the games next four goals for the final score of 5-1. Stout got a goal at 37 seconds of the second period and then 36 seconds into the third to build the 3-1 lead. And they added two more off the AU defense and goaltender
Matt Bartels, who finished the night with 30 saves.
The Spartan offense peppered the Stout goaltender with 46 shots but he was stout himself in net, stopping 45 of the Spartan shots.
With the loss, AU finishes the season with a 7-16-1 overall record and 1-15-1 in NCAA contests.
