Women's Bowlers compete in first tournament

The Aurora University women's bowling team made history at the Valparaiso University Crusader Classic as they competed in the first bowling classic in AU history. The Spartans took on 11 of the nation's Top-25 squads and posted a 4-9 overall record.

On Friday, November 6, the schedule consisted of Baker matches with the Spartans having a 1-4 record. AU opened play with a 748-561 win over Alabama A&M. This would be the first of four matches with Alabama A&M on the weekend, all resulting in Spartans wins. AU lost the final four matches of the day to Elmhurst College (817-793), #25 Alabama State (840-727), McKendree College (892-749) and Central Missouri (921-730).

Saturday brought traditional contests with the Spartans again going 1-4. AU opened the day dropping the first four matches against #7 University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (942-713), the University of Nebraska (1012-724), #15 Valparaiso University (928-730) and #12 Arkansas State (904-709). The AU win came again over Alabama A&M 668-639. Ashley Tamraz led the Spartans with a 793 series score and 158.6 average.

A best-of-seven Baker series in a bracketed finals was on the schedule for Sunday, November 8. AU opened with a 4-2 victory over Alabama A&M. In the next bracket, the Spartans were edge out by Elmhurst. The Spartans and Bluejays finished the series at 3-3 with one tie, but Elmhurst owned the tiebreaker to knock off the Spartans. AU would finish in 13th place by once again defeating Alabama A&M 4-1. AU had the best score of the day in game one of the second match with Alabama A&M, scoring a 231.

Next action for the Spartan women's bowling team comes on Saturday, November 14 and Sunday, November 15 at the Western Illinois University Leatherneck Classic.
