A weekend road trip to Ohio started at John Carroll University for the Aurora University men's lacrosse program and the Spartans started the two game trip off well with an 11-8 in Friday night.
The night did not start off very well though as the host Blue Streaks scored three goals in the first four minutes for a 3-0 lead.
The deficit did not deter the Spartans though as they responded with an offensive on-slaught with a 7-0 run over seven minutes that gave AU a 7-3 lead. AU freshman
Trevor McNamara started the scoring and he assisted on the next goal from senior
Danny Loyall. At 5:21,
Jordan Williams scored to tie the game with an assist from
Nolan Miller. 42 seconds later, sophomore
Jason Koziol gave the Spartans a lead they would not relinquish and Loyall assisted on the goal. Just 36 seconds later, senior
Max Obriecht who was dominating at the "x" scored an unassisted goal and then 43 seconds later, Loyall scored again with an assist from Miller. Koziol scored his second goal in the streak with McNamara picking up an assist.
The AU scoring run was ended as JCU scored before the first quarter ended for a 7-4 score in favor of the Spartans.
For the remaining three quarters, the games scoring slowed down drastically as both teams scored four goals each. AU scored twice in the second with Koziol picking up the hat trick and McNamara scoring his second. Obriecht assisted on the Koziol man-up goal while
Garret Rosiek assisted on the McNamara goal. Going into half, AU led 9-5.
The third quarter then saw just one tally from John Carroll and AU led by three at 9-6 going into the final quarter. In the final quarter, AU scored the first two goals, a man-up goal from Loyall (assisted by Rosiek) and an unassisted even strength goal from Obriecht.
John Carroll did score twice but the AU defense and goalkeeper
Cameron Brooks held strong for the 11-8 victory.
With the win, AU is now 2-4 overall. Next action for the Spartan men's lacrosse team comes on Sunday, March 15 when they play at Denison University. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m. (EST) in Granville, Ohio.
