The Aurora University women's tennis team opened the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament with a 5-2 win over Alverno College on Tuesday evening.
AU took a 2-1 lead after the conclusion of doubles play with Spartan No. 2 doubles of
Micaela Mascha and
Abby Matayka winning 8-3 and No. 3 doubles of
Melanie Findlay and
Jamie Huff won 8-4.
Needing three wins out of the six singles matches, AU won three of the first four singles match-ups as wins came from Mascha at No. 3 singles (6-1, 7-5), Matayka at No. 4 singles (6-1, 6-1) and
Chloe Madison won at No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-2).
With five points in hand, the Spartans won the first round match-up and advance to the semi-final round. AU is now 8-6 overall. Next action for the Spartan women's tennis team comes on
Saturday, May 2, 2015 when they compete in the NACC Tournament. The semi-final round is set to take place at 2:00 p.m. in Madison, Wisconsin against No. 2 Concordia University Wisconsin. The NACC Tournament is played at Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
