The Aurora University women's bowling team competed in the Viterbo University V-Hawk Invitational on Saturday, January 23 and Sunday, January 24. The Spartans finished the weekend with a 5-4 record, which left them in third place. The finish marked the best tournament place in the early history of the program.
During day one of the V-Hawk Invite the Spartans bowled team games and finished the day with a 4-1 record. The AU women started the tournament with back to back wins against Clarke University (819-764) and Morningside College (955-913) before falling short against Viterbo University (884-895). The Spartans followed the loss with two wins, BLIND (799-0) and University of Wisconsin - Madison (927-923), to finish 4-1. After five team games, senior
Brittany Honaker finished 2nd as an individual, leading herself onto the All-Tournament Team and fell short of 1st place by three pins. Honaker led the team average with 200.2 and
Hannah Mackie had the Spartans high game with a 239.
On Sunday, the matches consisted of Baker games that resulted in a 1-3 record for the Spartans. AU opened with a loss against Clarke University (656-643) before closely falling to Morningside College (660-655) and UW-Madison (691-655). After the final baker game, BLIND (681-0), the tournament was concluded for the Spartans who took third place.
The Spartan women now hold an overall record of 18-34. Next action for the AU women's bowling team comes on Saturday, February 6 and Sunday, February 7 when they travel to the Clarke University Crusader Open in Dubuque, Iowa.
