Women's bowlers open 2016-17 at Crusader Challenge

The Aurora University women's bowling team competed in their first tournament of the season at the Valparaiso University Crusader Challenge in Valparaiso, Indiana on Saturday, October 22 and Sunday, October 23. The Spartans finished fourth and posted a 2-8 overall record.

                 

On Saturday, October 22, the schedule consisted of five Baker matches that resulted in a record of 2-3 for the Spartans. AU opened play with a close match against Valparaiso University, but fell short 873-860. The Spartans then grabbed their first two season wins against Maryville University (762-681) and Elmhurst College (845-798).  AU lost the final two matches of the day to University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (858-797) and Mckendree College (942-793).

 

Sunday brought traditional contests with the Spartans having a 0-5 record. AU dropped the first two matches against University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (980-824) and McKendree College (897-708). The third match of the day, against Elmhurst College (973-973), resulted in a tie-breaking loss 75-62 for the Spartans. AU concluded the tournament with two additional losses to Maryville University (814-768) and Valparaiso University (893-765).  

Emma Davelllis had the top AU average of 169.6 and Ariana Franklin followed closely at 168. Franklin and Davellis also had the best games for the Spartans with a 217 and 203, respectively.

 

Next action for the Spartan women's bowling team is a three-day tournament starting on Friday, November 11 at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawk Invitational in Kenosha, Wisconsin (Sheridan Lanes).
