Aurora University Athletics

The Aurora University Spartans hosted the Thunder of Wheaton College in the AU 2016 home opening doubleheader at the Stuart Sports Complex. AU ws defeated in both games of the doubleheader, losing 9-5 and 6-2.

- Mandey Shrader was two for three with three runs scored.
- Elaine Walker was two for four with one run batted in.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mandey Shrader started out the first inning with a single to shortstop and later scored on a Larkin Langston ground out.
- Shrader then scored again in the third inning when Stephanie Starr reached on an error.
- Wheaton scored one run in the fourth and AU added a run in the fifth for a 3-1 lead.
- Wheaton scored four times in the sixth and again in the seventh and took a 9-3 lead.
- The Spartans scored twice in the bottom of the seventh but could not get any closer than the 9-5 final score.

SPARTAN HIGHLIGHTS
- Lauren Huebner was two for three with a double and stolen base.
- Stephanie Starr was two for four with two doubles and one run scored.
- Logan Cahill was two for four with a double.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Wheaton scored four times in the second inning, taking advantage of two AU errors.
- AU answered with one run in the second, a leadoff double by Starr was followed by a run scoring single from Walker.
- Spartan pitcher Britni Wilson and Wheaton reliever Katie Thornton kept the offenses off balance until the seventh.
- Wheaton scored two runs on a home run from Ellen Radandt.
- The Spartans got hits from four of their first five hitters in the bottom of the seventh to score one run and have the bases loaded. But three Spartans were left stranded as the tying run came to the plate twice.
