The Aurora University softball team dropped a pair of games to Dominican University in a NACC doubleheader. AU remains one win away from clinching the outright 2016 NACC Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Dominican scored single runs in each of the first three innings.
- AU tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the third inning. Mandey Shrader and Larkin Langston both singled and came around to score later in the inning.
- Dominican added a fourth run in the bottom of the sixth inning.
- In the seventh, AU threatened. Lauren Huebner led off with a single and Shrader walked bringing the go ahead run to the plate with no outs. But the Spartans could not capitalize and fell 4-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Spartans led 2-0 in the second inning, putting together three hits with a double from Amie Raynor and run scoring single from Taylor Moore being the big hits.
- Dominican answered with a five run bottom of the inning which included an inside the park home run.
- A lead off single from Laura Dierking in the third led to a run for AU.
- Dominican pushed their lead to 7-3 with a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.
- AU scored two runs in the fourth inning with a two run single from Larkin Langston that scored Moore and Lauren Huebner.
- The Spartans continued to chip away at the deficit, scoring two more runs in the fifth and the game was tied 7-7.
- AU took the lead in the top of the seventh as Logan Cahill led off with a double and scored on a Huebner single. AU left two runners on in the inning.
- Dominican used a pair of one out AU errors to get runners on first and second in the bottom of the seventh. AU called on Vanessa Hartzell to shut the door for the eighth time this year but she gave up a single to tie the game before a suicide squeeze ended the game, 9-8.

Next action for the Spartan softball team comes on Sunday, May 1 when they host Wisconsin Lutheran College. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. in Montgomery, Illinois at the Stuart Sports Complex. The game originally scheduled against Wisconsin Lutheran on Saturday, April 30 has been moved due to expected rain.
