Spartans advance to NACC Tournament Final

The Aurora University softball team punched their ticket for a return trip to the 2016 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament Championships with a 3-1 victory over Concordia University Wisconsin..

Logan Cahill was two for three with a double and one run scored.
Mandey Shrader was two for three.
Elaine Walker was two for three with one run batted in.
Vanessa Hartzell earned the win, pitching a complete game, allowing one run, just three hits and struck out eight.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • AU scored a pair of runs in third inning as Mandey Shrader and Laura Dierking led off with singles. Dierking scored later in the inning on a single from Elaine Walker and Larkin Langston scored (reached on a fielder's choice) on a fielder's choice for a 2-0 AU lead.
  • Concordia Wisconsin cut the lead in half with what would be their only run of the game, a solo home run down the right field line.
  • AU answered immediately in the bottom of the fourth. A lead-off double from Logan Cahill started the inning and she would score on a ground out from Lauren Huebner.
  • The runs were all AU pitcher Vanessa Hartzell would need as she set the Falcons down in order over the final three innings.

Next action for the Spartan softball team comes on Saturday, May 7 when they travel to Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament at Alverno College. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. AU is the No. 1 seed and play the winner of the 9:00 am game between No. 2 seed Concordia University Wisconsin and No. 3 Benedictine University.
