Spartan bowlers compete at Collegiate Team Match Play

The Aurora University women's bowling team competed in their fifth tournament of the season at the Collegiate Team Match Play in Fairview Heights, Illinois on Saturday November 25 and Sunday, November 26. 

On Saturday, November 25, the Spartans opened the tournament with six sets.  In the first set, Spartans lost to Missouri Baptist University (674-790) and SCAD-Savannah (674-830).  In the second set, Spartans went on to lose to Judson University (730-905), Huntingdon College (730-862), and Martin Methodist College (730-831).  The third set the Spartans competed against Saint Xavier University (753-1046), Drury University (753-958), and Clarke University (753-853).

AU continued into the fourth set of the day and won two out of three matches.  They played and beat Wichita State University (1051-941) and lost a close match against Lindenwood University (1051-1125).  Spartans beat Urbana University (1051-884) to finish the fourth set of the tournament.  In the fifth set, the Spartans lost a tough match to Maryville University (943-1074), but then came back and beat Mount Mercy University (943-880).  AU closed the fifth set strong beating Lincoln University of Missouri (943-756).  The sixth and final set of the first day the Spartans lost three straight matches.  They played Mount Mercy University (790-1077), Clarke University (790-893), and SCAD-Savannah (790-1005).

On Sunday, November 26, the Spartans continued the tournament with five sets.  In the first set, Spartans lost three tough matches to Saint Ambrose University (655-937), Aquinas College (655-841), and Kansas Wesleyan University (655-753).  In the second set, AU had a BYE and then lost against Missouri Baptist University (691-769) and SCAD-Savannah (691-881).  Spartans went into the third set and lost a close match to Huntingdon College (572-796).  AU lost the next two against Maryville University (572-912) and Clarke University (572-709).

AU continued the day into the fourth set with a win against Drury University (725-635).  Spartans lost two close matches against Kansas Wesleyan University (725-784) and Wichita State University (725-913).  In the fifth set, AU played and lost two close matches against Lincoln University of Missouri (623-759) and Missouri Baptist University (623-845).  


Alyssa Lang had the top average of 183 for the Spartans.  Jenna Mendez averaged a 164.5 and Hannah Mackie followed close behind averaging a 163.3.  

Next action for the Spartan women's bowling team is a two-day tournament starting on Saturday, January 13 at the Eagles Baker Challenge in Addison, Illinois (Stardust Bowl).
