Spartans have season come to end at NACC Tournament

The Aurora University Spartan baseball team went 1-1 on day two of the 2017 Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Tournament as they would defeat Benedictine University 6-5 before falling to Milwaukee School of Engineering 3-2 and seeing their season come to an end.

SPARTAN HIGHLIGHTS
- Elias McMahon earned the win with five innings of relief.
- Michael Fidler was one for three with a home run and two runs batted in.
- Jeff Woods was two for two with one run scored and one run batted in.
- Nick Turner was two for five with two runs scored and one run batted in.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- AU fell behind with a two-run home run from Benedictine in the first.
- A BU error and three singles including a two run single for Adam Lipscomb tied the game.
- In the second, Mike Cherven singled to lead off and scored on a Nick Turner single gave AU a 3-2 lead.
- Wildness by starter Chris Roycroft allowed BU to score twice in the third and take a 4-3 lead on AU.
- The Spartans saw BU add another in the fifth and now trailed 5-3.
- A two run bomb from Michael Fidler tied the game 5-5 in the bottom of the fifth.
- Three AU singles with Jeff Woods driving in Nick Turner with the go ahead run welcome the Spartans in the sixth.
- In the ninth, BU got their lead off hitter on but AU catcher Mike Cherven picked him off at first and allowed for AU to coast to the 6-5 win.

Michael Fidler was two for four with a double and one run batted in.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- AU scored once in the fourth to take a 1-0 lead but left a pair of Spartans stranded with a chance to take a commanding lead.
- Three singles, a walk and a Spartan error allowed MSOE to score three runs in the fifth.
- In the eighth, Jeff LaPage hit a lead-off home run and Jeff Mayes reached on an infield single but he was left on base.
- The Spartans threatened in the ninth with Mike Cherven reaching with a two out single but the game ended when Ty Jaquez hit a laser to center for the final out.
