The Aurora University baseball team traveled for a weekend series to open up the 2018 season at the Spalding University Derby Classic. AU went 1-1 on the first day with a 3-1 victory over the University of Wisconsin - Platteville.

- The Spartans fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning.

Jeff Mayes driving in one of the two runs.

- A defensive pitchers battle was in store fo game two of the season opening double header.
- Spartan pitcher
Kyle Blunt struck out 10, allowing three hits, walking one and not allowing a run over six innings.
- The game remained 0-0 heading into free baseball time of extra innings.
- Spalding pushed across a run in the bottom of the tenth against
John Barnes who was in his fourth inning of relief in the game.
- AU would fall 1-0.
