The Aurora University women's track team won the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Indoor Track and Field Championship for the sixth straight year with winning the 2018 crown on Sunday in Kenosha, Wisconsin (at Carthage College).
The AU women scored 191.5 points to win by 71.5 over the runner up Falcons of Concordia University Wisconsin. When the meet was complete, AU had 25 athletes score points in the 16 various events led by 28 from
Jackie Schane, and 20 individual and 30 overall from
Deterrica Simpkins. In all,12 Spartans earned medals on the day.
Schane was named the NACC Track Athlete of the Meet for her performances with
Auset Kheru earned the NACC Freshman of the Year Honors.
Schane was a champion in the mile run and 3,000 meter and finished second in a photo finish in the 5,000 meter. Simpkins was a champion in the 55 meter and 200 meter, then led the 4x400 meter relay. Kheru was a champion in the high jump, fourth in the 200 meter, fifth in the 55 meter, sixth in the shot put and was a middle leg in the 4x400 meter relay.
Sennior thrower
Hannah Meager had another fine performance at the NACC Championship in both the shot put and the weight throw. She won the weight throw and finished second in the shot put. The pole vault crew had a strong performance with four athletes scoring led by
Rebecca Moore who garnered a third place finish.
