Spartans learn NCAA Tournament destination

The Aurora University Men's Basketball team will represent the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference in the 2018 NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championships. The Spartans received a Pool A berth after winning the NACC tournament championship.
The Spartans will travel to Washington University, St. Louis (22-3) and take on the Bears on Friday, March 2. Game time will be released as soon as it is announced by the host team. The match-up will be the fifth all-time between the schools.

AU will be making their 10th overall NCAA Tournament appearance since the 1997-1998 season and their seventh in 14 seasons. The appearance is also the Spartans sixth as a member of the Northern Athletics Conference. AU claimed the 2017–2018 NACC men's basketball Tournament title on Saturday night on Lancaster Court in Thornton Gymnasium. The top-ranked Spartans defeated longtime rival Benedictine University 76–71 in yet another thrilling match-up between the programs.
 
The Spartans will enter the NCAA tournament with a 19-8 overall record, winning nine consecutive games and holding a 13-2 record since the new year. The Spartans were the NACC regular season and tournament champions with a 16-4 regular season record and 2-0 in the NACC tournament.
 
AU has been led predominately by the trio of Marcus Myers, Max Vickers and Ty Carlson on the season. Thus far in 2017-2018, Myers, the 2017-2018 NACC Player of the Year and First-Team All-Conference selection, is averaging 20.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game while shooting 50.6-percent from the field (217-of-429).  Vickers, a First-Team All-Conference selection, is averaging 16.4 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while shooting 48.2-percent from the field (158-of-328). Carlson, a Second-Team All-Conference selection, is averaging 15.0 points and 5.0 rebounds while shooting 46.4-percent (122-of-263) from the field and 40.5-percent (62-of-153) from three-point range.
 
In his second season at the helm of the Spartans, Robinson led AU to the NACC title and is in elite company having been named a NACC Player of the Year in 2009-2010 and now a NACC Coach of the Year in 2017-2018. In two seasons, Robinson holds a 36-17 overall record and is 31-9 in NACC regular season play.
